Humla district is all set to be officially declared a 'literate zone' on May 23, after achieving an impressive 96.04% literacy rate among people aged 15 to 60.
According to the Education Development and Coordination Unit, the declaration comes after all seven local levels in the district met the national literacy standards.
A meeting chaired by Committee Chief Shiva Raj Sharma confirmed the decision earlier today, stating that Humla has now fulfilled all necessary criteria to earn the literate district status.
Out of 35,345 people aged between 15 and 60, a total of 33,954 are now considered literate, shared the Unit's Officiating Chief, Yogesh Ale Magar.
Here's a breakdown of the literacy rate by rural municipality:
Namkha: 96%
Simkot: 95.6%
Kharpunath: 95.5%
Sarkegad: 95.74%
Chankheli: 95.24%
Adanchuli: 95.28%
Taajkot: 98.28%
The upcoming declaration is a major milestone for Humla, one of Nepal's most remote districts, and a testament to ongoing efforts to improve education access and literacy in rural regions.
