The Birgunj Customs Office has reported imports worth Rs 625.9 billion in the fiscal year 2081/82, marking a significant rise of Rs 82.3 billion (15.14%) compared to the previous fiscal year.
Petroleum products topped the import list at Rs 101.8 billion, followed by crude soybean oil worth Rs 57.6 billion. Machinery and spare parts worth Rs 36.63 billion were also imported, along with iron and iron-based goods valued at Rs 34.41 billion.
According to Customs Office Chief Deepak Lamichhane, both imports and exports saw notable growth during the last fiscal year.
Exports through the Birgunj customs point reached Rs 101.84 billion - a substantial increase of Rs 70.70 billion (227.09%) from the previous fiscal year.
Refined soybean oil was the most exported item, with 291,491,759 liters worth Rs 61.45 billion shipped abroad. Other major exports included fruit juice and iron and iron-based products.
